My name is Diana Adler. I’m 54 years old. It is my growth as a Christian ... a follower of Christ ... that has lead me to serve the Lord as best as I can ... “where” ever, “how” ever, and “when” ever I can (Joshua 24:15). In 2004, I decided to put those words into practice, so I applied for membership with Wycliffe Bible Translators (www.wycliffe.org). In 2005, I was accepted and in 2007, I moved to Ethiopia to serve in a support role to the Ethiopian Branch.
Since the ability to communicate is vital for one’s successful overseas experience, during 2007 and 2008, I studied Amharic - the national language of Ethiopia. After 18 months, I have enough skills for day-to-day conversations.
God gifts people with a multitude of skills and talents. Personally, I love to develop and coordinate new programs
and processes/procedures. By using my skills, talents, gifts, I hope to be able to serve the people of Ethiopia.
With that in mind, during the second half of 2008, I began the process of computerizing our reference/research library - a long overdue job that no one has been willing to tackle. It will take all of 2009 to complete this process and probably most of 2010 to computerize the huge number of off-print articles that have accumulated over the years. The plan is to complete the cataloguing of the library and to train my replacement, so that I can move onto another assignment, as quickly as possible.
Afterwards, I hope to coordinate the trainings and seminars that we host for the Ethiopians who are studying linguistics/translation, principles and practices of literacy, etc. Along with those responsibilities, I hope to develop a new program to assist people who have a desire to visit/work with us in Ethiopia - to help them plan their arrival, work, and eventual departure, with the hope that someday, they will consider returning to this beautiful country to serve full time.
One of the greatest obstacles for those serving overseas is prayer and financial support. Without the ongoing gifts from others (churches and individuals), a person’s service ends and they return to their sending country ... end of story. With continuous prayer and steady support, the work continues. All assistance is useful and truly appreciated.
